We’re back with another edition of People with Taste. The series where we highlight what inspires local creatives and tastemakers! This time with Liv De Haan Melchers, Vintage Shop Owner and Stylist at Able Shoppe. Her shop is a treasure trove of curated cool-girl vintage home goods and clothes. She thrifts everything from vases to chairs to 90s denim. She often has Instagram sales and pop ups throughout Chicago land and other cities!
“I have been loving vintage ladder back chairs recently. Especially if the base is painted a fun color! I thrifted these plum ones recently and have a coco colored set in the shop. They look stunning paired with more mid century or primitive pieces.”
“One of my favorite things is finding gems in the Chicago burbs. My current favorite spot is Gigi’s Wine Bar & Bistro in Barrington. It’s a sweet spot to go with girlfriends or on a date night. Their shrimp and grits blew my mind.”
“My most recent trip was to New York City for a buying and research trip. I had the best time! NYC in Feb is a little sleepy in a very accessible way. It was still crisp but sunny and inspiring. Visiting new boutiques, antique spots, and trying a natural wine bar or two are NYC musts for me!”
Checking out Able Shoppe soon? Here are some things we’re inspired by:
Liv’s home tour: She has such a cool, curated, old home in Elgin that had us so inspired! Plus, it’s filled with special vintage finds, of course! Our favorite piece is her traditional tapestry above her living room couch. Also, if you haven’t checked out Paige Wassel’s interior design channel, do it. She’s our new interior design bff.
Vests for Spring: We are all about a vest this Spring. There’s something great about the versatility and they’re so easily layered. We purchased two adorable vintage vests from Able Shoppe in a bright blue and in gray. We also purchased a cool jean jacket that we’ll have on repeat this spring.
Home ware: Liv’s collection of homeware is truly special. We’ve picked up a cutie floral tray, Italian mirror and some fun little objects for our home. These small touches make our homes homier! All of them were purchased them at her in-store pop ups at Sunday Standard and Center of Order and Experimentation in Chicago.
Thank you to Liv for having great taste!
